LOCOPIAS for CF3850 serie
Since a few years the demand for new short sea vessels raised and several companies decided to purchase a CF 3850. Back in 1998 the first vessels of the Combi Freigther 3850 serie were equipped with LOCOPIAS on-board loading computer software. Since 2021 we have been awarded many contracts for delivery of LOCOPIAS for this series with the new design. An advantage here is that Damen makes the stability booklets with PIAS ship design software. This allows us to use the same source files for the loading computer as used for the stability booklets. This saves both money and time, and it is also easier for Class to approve the software because it produces exactly the same results.
Damen is able to tailor the CF 3850 to meet client demands with a series of options. The same applies for SARC, the LOCOPIAS for these vessels are stacked with a lot of modules but it is possible to add some extra modules in a later stage. Some vessels will also feature wind assisted propulsion in the form of foldable ventofoils from Econowind. Relevant changes are easily included in LOCOPIAS.
Years of experience with more than 1500 different ships have made LOCOPIAS to what it is today, which is reflected in user-friendliness on a more fundamental level than visual layout only. LOCOPIAS has no limitations concerning the type of vessel or the type of cargo and calculates all required data directly from the defined hull, for every combination of trim, heel and draft.
Included amongst the technologies that the new CF 3850 draws on is the Damen Triton remote monitoring platform. This IoT solution is connected to systems throughout the vessel and provides feedback on their performance. LOCOPIAS has a connection to Triton where information on the current floating position and loads are shared. It is also possible to import tank data and drafts into the stability software for a quick assessment of the current situation.
The counter now stands at over 40 ships and the end is not yet in sight as these ships continue to be built for various shipping companies. If you are also interested in the CF3850, please contact Damen. If you would like LOCOPIAS for your ship, please contact SARC.

About SARC
SARC, which is an acronym for Scheepsbouwkundig Advies en Reken Centrum (Naval Architectural Software and Engineering Centre), was founded in 1980, when the computer age was still in its early days. Starting with simple programs for tables of hydrostatic data, tank sounding tables and hydrostatic stability calculations, SARC has ever since been developing new software, researching and implementing new techniques. Today SARC employs a dozen trained and experienced naval architects, involved in software engineering, software support and project management. To offer state-of-the-art solutions, SARC is continuously investing in research and development, which is reflected by a number of papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference papers and, more importantly, countless engineering projects and LOCOPIAS deliveries.
